Invisalign has become an incredibly popular orthodontic treatment, and it’s easy to see why. You can get the same results as traditional braces much more discreetly, so much so that most people won’t even be aware you’re wearing an aligner until you tell them.
However, Invisalign aligners are removable, meaning that it’s possible to lose them. If that happens to you, here are the next steps you ought to take.
What to Do If You Lose Your Aligner
If you realize that you’ve lost your aligner, the first thing to try is to retrace your steps. If you’ve just left a restaurant, it wouldn’t hurt to go back and check where you were sitting. You might also ask the staff and see if anyone has found it.
Check under seats, tables, or anywhere your aligner may have fallen. If you feel up to it, you might also check in the trashcan in case you accidentally threw your tray away.
If you’ve checked everywhere and still can’t find your trays, call your dentist. They’ll order you a replacement or, if you we’re close to changing over to the next aligner anyway, they’ll have you move on to the next stage of trays.
How to Avoid Losing Your Aligner
If you’ve lost your aligner recently, you probably don’t want to do that again. Fortunately, there are a few things you can try to ensure that you keep a hold on your trays.
If you haven’t already, get yourself a case for your Invisalign tray and keep it in the same place so that you never lose it. Any time your aligner isn’t in your mouth, put it in that tray; that way, you’ll never lose them.
If you don’t have a case, then you should be sure not to leave your tray in a napkin or on a table. That makes it all too easy to throw it away.
Of course, the safest place for your aligner is in your mouth. Wear them as much as possible, and you’ll be able to stay on track with your orthodontic treatment.
